Tip #1: Look for someone who will assist you after the process.

Usually, after the patient leaves the clinic to go home, grogginess for about 12 hours or overnight may be experienced by the patient after the treatment. This is the reason why you should have someone assist you with getting around and taking your medications for at least 24 hours after the procedure. Make sure that all your medications, cold drinks, and towels are placed near your bedside for easy reach.

Tip #2: Take nausea pills.

Most people are feeling sick and nauseated during the first 24 hours. To lessen this side effect, doctors are usually advising their patients to take nausea pill at least one hour before taking your pain pills or antibiotics. Although taking lots of fluids is necessary, you should avoid drinking plain water or acidic fruit juices because this could make you feel more nauseated.

Tip #3: Wear compression garments full time for at least 2 weeks.

If you had liposuction on your thighs and buttocks, doctors will fit you a girdle like a pair of compression shorts to be used. An elastic vest for a love handle liposuction may also be necessary.

Tip #4: Use oral analgesic for pain relief.

One of the side effects is a frequent urination for a day or 2 after the procedure especially if you had a tumescent liposuction because your body is starting to absorb the anesthesia fluids, making your kidney busy discarding it. Your doctor will also prescribe you with some oral analgesic for pain. Do not take any oral medications like aspirin unless prescribed by your doctor because these medications can interfere with blood clotting. Doctors usually suggest acetaminophen with or without codeine.

Tip #5: Watch what you eat.

To reduce the feeling of nausea, watch your food intake by eating lightly at first. You can start your post operative diet by eating saltines and a bowl of clear soup. Drink plenty of liquids to readjust your body’s fluid balance that have been changed due to the effect of anesthesia.

Tip #6: Place dressing over tiny wounds that are leaking.

This will stop from draining and help wounds to close up within 48 hours after treatment. Do not take a shower immediately on your first operative day. You have to wait until the second day or as directed by your doctor.

Tip #7: Know what and what not to do after liposuction.

Avoid also doing some exercises, lifting or bending for at least 2 to 3 days after the procedure. Walk and move slowly for a few days.  You are not also allowed to do some aerobics for at least 3 weeks. Regarding sexual activity, there are no restrictions as long as the patient will have gentle sexual encounter.

The effects of liposuction procedure will make a dramatic improvement in your body. But it will take three to four months before all the changes will take effect and become visible. If you have medical concerns after the treatment, it is advisable that you seek for medical advice from a doctor immediately. This is the best way to undergo the liposuction recovery period.
