How to Make Homemade TCA Peel – 7 Steps to Create and Apply this Skin Peel

Trichloroacetic acid peel or simply called TCA peel is a chemical peel that can be done by a professional or on your own at home. This kind of chemical peel has been used for over 100 years already to improve fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation problems and shallow scars.  The TCA peel is more aggressive and more effective than any other chemical treatments or skin peels used to correct skin flaws. It can also tighten and firm the skin, thus leaving you with a younger looking complexion. After the TCA treatment, reproduction of collagen also increases immediately. If you want to have a smoother and clearer skin, here are some easy guides on how to make a homemade TCA peel.

Step #1: Prepare what you need.

Prepare all the things you’ll need such as Alpha hydroxyl acid lotion, trichloroacetic acid and a small plastic spoon. You will also need a plastic container, cotton balls, mild facial cleanser, washcloth, astringent, facial sponge, baking soda, and triple antibiotic cream.

Step #2: Prepare your skin.

Stop using any form of exfoliation or shaving cream at least 3 to 4 weeks before the peel. This is the way to condition your skin before doing the TCA treatment. Use only Alpha hydroxy acid lotion before going to bed each night. Apply the cream by using your fingers on the area you are about to treat.

Step #3: Make the trichloroacetic acid solution.

Use a plastic container for your peel by mixing half or full strength of trichloroacetic acid with water. Mix the solution thoroughly using a plastic spoon. Do not use metal. You should follow the one is to one ratio in mixing. Half strength tricholoacetic acid should be diluted using an equal amount of water or 1 tablespoon Trichloroacetic acid to 1 tablespoon of water. But full strength tricholoroacetic acid should be mixed with 2 parts water to one part acid or ½ tablespoon acid to 1 tablespoon water. The solution should be at least with 25% acid solution but not more than that.

Step #4: Test your skin for allergy reactions by performing a patch test.

Do this by applying a small amount of solution to the inside of your arm using a cotton ball and leave it for at least 3 to 4 minutes. Wash your skin with water and mild cleanser. Wait if there are any reactions from your skin, at least 24 hours or longer. Wait if redness, rash or tenderness of the skin will occur. If nothing happens, then you can now proceed to using the TCA chemical peel.

Step #5: Start by washing your face using a mild soap.

Pat your skin dry with a clean towel. Remove excess oils using cotton ball and mild astringent. Get a facial sponge and put enough amount of the solution and start applying the acid solution to your face evenly. Avoid the eye and mouth area.

Step #6: Leave the solution on your skin for at least 4 to 5 minutes.

Remove the solution using cotton balls that are dipped in a mixture of 1 cup water and 2 teaspoons baking soda.

Step #7: After you have removed all the TCA peel on your skin, apply a triple antibiotic cream.

Apply the cream using your fingers and avoid using any make up for at least 2 weeks. Also, avoid shaving the treated area and exposure to the sun. Wash it daily with mild soap and always protect the skin by using triple antibiotic treatment.

The TCA chemical peel can be used in any parts of the body. Since this is a strong treatment, TCA peel can improve almost any type of skin problem. But if misused, it could also cause skin damage. It is important to know how to use the TCA peel before you proceed.
